1988 Daytona 500
(1988)|
Following his horrific crash the year before at Talladega's tri-oval, veteran Bobby Allison edged out his son Davey in the final two laps of this thriller to become the oldest driver in NASCAR history to make it to the winner's circle of Daytona. The first race to introduce restrictor plates into competition, the '88 Daytona 500 is also remembered as the site where Dale Earnhardt unveiled his now-iconic black color scheme to the world at large.
