Glasgow, Scotland, bus driver George Lennox (Robert Carlyle) develops a crush on one of his regular passengers, a Nicaraguan refugee named Carla (Oyanka Cabezas). When George gets fired for letting Carla ride free, he quickly becomes enmeshed in her life. Soon, he's traveling with her to her nation to investigate the disappearance of her ex-boyfriend. British filmmaker Ken Loach's seething drama won a gold medal at the 1997 Venice Film Festival.
