Director Howard Hawks reunites with Rio Bravo star John Wayne in this classic Western. Gunfighter Cole Thornton (Wayne) hires himself out to the highest bidder. But that doesn't mean he'll face down his friend J.P. Harrah (Robert Mitchum), sheriff of the titular town. After detoxing from a massive drinking problem, the sheriff and Thornton team with "Mississippi" (James Caan) and his sawed-off shotgun to help some farmers battle greedy ranchers.
