Mickey Spillane, author of the Mike Hammer novels, stars as his own fictional main character in Roy Rowland's 1963 private eye action-mystery. The murder of his secretary, Velda, had turned Hammer into an alcoholic years ago. But when a dying man tells Hammer that Velda is alive, Hammer sobers up to find her. As he hunts down an assassination squad targeting Velda, Hammer uncovers a multicountry conspiracy plot involving a U.S. senator.
