Prof. J.T. Neumeyer (Timothy Hutton) gets his hands on a police file, dated five days in the future, that recounts his own murder. At first, Neumeyer thinks it's a joke, but when strange events begin to occur, he believes his days are numbered. Neumeyer suspects everyone, even his own girlfriend (Kari Matchett). Det. Irwin Sikorski (Randy Quaid) thinks Neumeyer's nuts, but eventually believes him, and the duo sets out to alter future events.
