When the feisty Alice Dimmock (Ruth Gordon) takes a job working for the widowed Claire Marrable (Oscar winner Geraldine Page), she can't help but be suspicious. After all, she's next in a long line of housekeepers who have mysteriously "disappeared." Concerned for her safety, Alice's nephew urges her to quit … but his aunt is determined to stay.
