Oliver Twist

In the first major film version of Charles Dickens's classic story of an orphan's journey through 1840s London society, Jackie Coogan (fresh from his title role in Charlie Chaplin's The Kid) portrays Oliver. Lon Chaney Sr. puts his acting and makeup genius to work as Fagin. Director Frank Lloyd would later move successfully into the sound era with classics such as Cavalcade and Mutiny on the Bounty.
