As the sun sets on one of the hottest days of summer, locals gather in front of a Manhattan brownstone to gossip about their neighbors -- namely, the unfaithful Anna Maurrant. When Anna's husband discovers her in the arms of the milkman, the couple's tragic confrontation changes the neighborhood forever and leaves their daughter to pick up the pieces. This classic film was adapted from the groundbreaking play by Elmer Rice.
