Jack Lemmon directs this poignant film about an aging widower, Joseph P. Kotcher (Walter Matthau), whose son and daughter-in-law want to put him in a retirement home. Refusing to go along with their plan, Joseph moves in with a young, distressed baby-sitter who's newly with child. As the unlikely roommates learn a great deal from each other, Joseph's family realizes their mistake. Matthau received a Best Actor Oscar nomination for his portrayal.
