From directors Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger comes this 1951 production of Jacques Offenbach's opera featuring tenor Robert Rounseville as the heartbroken poet Hoffmann, who relives three doomed love affairs in a series of flashbacks. Dancer Moira Shearer plays the role of Stella, Jane Ashton choreographs the ballet sequences, and legendary maestro Thomas Beecham conducts the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
