Gifted artist Lyle Maze (Rob Morrow) is reconciled to a life sans romance thanks to his dual afflictions: Tourette's Syndrome and obsessive-compulsive disorder. But things take a surprising turn when best friend Mike (Craig Sheffer) heads off on a humanitarian mission, leaving behind pregnant girlfriend Callie (Laura Linney). She leans on Lyle for help, and before long he's Lamaze coach, pinch-hitting father-to-be and head over heels for Callie.
