His fortunes change when he finds love with a nurse (Emma Thompson) and lands the starring role in a new musical version of "The Elephant Man." Goldblum shines in this lead performance, and Thompson's cinematic debut shows a flair for comedy and carnality she rarely gets the chance to display.
