When writer Nick Gardenia (Chevy Chase) is kidnapped from his coastal California home and forced to rob a bank, his quiet, mundane life is suddenly thrown into tumult. Now a felon and fugitive, Nick seeks help from an unlikely source: his ex-wife (Goldie Hawn). She's a public defender who's remarried to prosecutor Ira Parks (Charles Grodin), and he's understandably upset over Nick's unannounced visit. Jay Sandrich directs Neil Simon's script.
