Indie filmmaker Hal Hartley's first feature stars Adrienne Shelly as Audry, a brilliant teen beauty who falls in love with an ex-con named Josh (Robert John Burke) whom her father (Chris Cooke) hires to work as a mechanic in his garage. Their small-town affair raises some big questions. Of utmost interest: How many people did Josh murder before being sent up the river? The film was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance in 1989.
