Moved by the pleas of doctor and international humanitarian Nick Callahan (Clive Owen), who criticizes the elite's reluctance to offer support to people suffering around the world, wealthy socialite Sarah Jordan (Angelina Jolie) joins him in Ethiopia and a romance ensues. Sarah returns home to her husband, but reunites with Nick over time in various exotic locations, where their love is tested and their lives endangered.
