The Marshettas are one dysfunctional family. Rupert (Keanu Reeves) is a misfit teen who refuses to take up the coal-mining career that his father (Fred Ward) wants for him, and his mom (Bonnie Bedelia) is not the faithful wife he thinks she is. Rupert and his accomplice, a seductive older woman, cook up a wacky scheme to kidnap his father and use the ransom money to ditch the small Pennsylvania town, but things don't go exactly according to plan.
