Irene Williams (Helen Walker) plots with her lover, Jim (Tony Barrett), to stage a car accident to kill her husband, Walter (Brian Donlevy). The plan backfires, killing Jim and landing Irene in jail, but Walter is missing and presumed dead, allowing him to relocate and start a new life. All goes well until a detective (Charles Coburn) believes he can identify the supposedly dead Walter. Ella Raines co-stars in Arthur Lubin's film noir classic.
