Paris nightclub owner Simon (Richard Crenna) moonlights as the leader of a pack of bank robbers. But the gang's plans for a large heist are complicated when the local police captain (also Simon's friend) begins to suspect Simon's alternate profession. This crisply executed stylized pulp thriller from director Jean-Pierre Melville is evidence why the filmmaker's work has influenced such modern-day movie creators as John Woo and Quentin Tarantino.
