Haunted by his father's unsettling death, twentysomething Duncan (Joshua Jackson) tries to create a more stable life when he takes a handyman job at the senior residence where his paternal grandparents (Louise Fletcher and Donald Sutherland) live. It's not long before freedom-loving Duncan feels trapped. But he makes every effort to connect with his deteriorating grandfather and finds solace with feisty caretaker Kate (Juliette Lewis).
