Thrown in prison for a murder he committed as a young boy, Nandha (Surya) suffers his mother's shame when she refuses to visit him during his detainment. Driven by the desire for a mother's love, Nandha resolves to enter college after his jail term has been served. With dedication and hard work, his status escalates, and he becomes the right-hand man of a local bigwig and finds romance with the lovely Kalyani (Laila), a repatriate from Sri Lanka.
