Soldier Javed Khan (Shashi Kapoor) becomes enamored with Ruth, the daughter of an English widow, and renounces his military duty to pursue his beloved. After he's forced back into battle on account of his cousin's death, Javed tries to return to his sweetheart, but Ruth's mother refuses his proposal and the heartbroken lovers are separated once again. This captivating film recounts one man's plight during India's uprising against British rule.
