Fuzzing the line between reality and fantasy, director Xialou Gou's engrossing film charts a Chinese screenwriter's internal journey by way of his fictional protagonist. While his script unfolds about a young man (Zijiang Yang) fleeing authorities after killing his lover, so does the life of chain-smoking scribe Hui Rao. As his character travels to Mohe, a frigid fishing village on the Russian border, Rao finds himself drawn to the remote hamlet.
