When an astronaut tapped to man the first flight to Mars is injured, NASA replaces him with hapless spacecraft designer Fred Z. Randall (Harland Williams). Teamed with a brash commander (William Sadler), a proficient mission specialist (Jessica Lundy) and a trained chimp, Randall nearly brings down the mission with his ineptitude. Beau Bridges co-stars in this zany comedy, filmed in part at the Johnson Space Center in Houston.
