Lee Evans stars as Alfred Polly, a shopkeeper driven to suicide by depression, a failing business and an irksome wife. But when his plan backfires and he's hailed a hero, he's inspired to set out to seek his own happiness. Can his dreams be fulfilled that easily? This British TV adaptation of H.G. Wells's classic Victorian story also stars Anne-Marie Duff, Julie Graham, Roger Lloyd-Pack and Richard Coyle.
