Just released from prison, Jimmy Kerrigan (Alex Ferns) tries to prove he's now on the straight and narrow by agreeing to play Christ in the yearly Passion play, but some doubt that he's truly reformed, especially his ex-crime boss (James Cosmo) and a dogged police detective (Kenneth Cranham). Both men think Jimmy is still up to his criminal ways, but Father Flynn (Tom Georgeson) believes otherwise and puts his faith in the ex-gangster.
