In director Alfred Hitchcock's last silent film, Pete (Carl Brisson), a poor fisherman, heads out to the high seas in the hopes of earning enough money to impress the father of his girlfriend, Kate (Anny Ondra). When news that Pete was lost at sea reaches Kate, she starts an affair with Pete's best friend, Philip (Malcolm Keen). But Pete is still alive, and he returns home hoping to marry Kate. Who will she choose?
