A seemingly sweet young beauty, Irene (Dominique Sanda), carefully moves to capture the fortune of a retired tycoon (Anthony Quinn) in 1880s Rome, concocting a plan to bring the man's entire estranged family back together. After marrying one of his sons, Irene seduces another son and plans to do the same with their father. Sanda won the best actress award at the Cannes Film Festival for her role as the seductive schemer.
