The director (Gordon Parks) and writer (Ernest Tidyman) of the 1971 smash that marked the debut of blaxploitation flicks are back with this hard-hitting sequel. Detective John Shaft (Richard Roundtree) is running interference between black and white gangsters over the numbers racket in Queens, N.Y., this time -- leading to an action-packed climax involving cars, boats, helicopters and whatever else Parks can find to throw in the mix.
