When a young black man (Mekhi Phifer) is wrongly condemned for the murder of a white man, his family convinces a trusted schoolteacher (Don Cheadle) to visit him daily. In the process, both men learn lessons about the never-ending struggle for human dignity. Based on the prize-winning novel by Ernest J. Gaines, this moving story of racism and redemption in the Deep South received an Emmy for Outstanding Made for Television Movie.
