While in Pakistan researching a story on shoe bomber Richard Reid in 2002, Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl (Dan Futterman) is suddenly kidnapped, prompting his pregnant wife, Mariane (Angelina Jolie), to launch a desperate search to find him. Versatile director Michael Winterbottom directs this poignant adaptation of Mariane Pearl's real-life memoir, which documents her struggle to rise above the bitterness and hatred around her.
