Michael McCann (Steve Martin) feels totally betrayed by the world after his wife reveals that he's not the birth father of their child. A few years after his breakup, we find him living alone in a small town, still miserable. But everything changes when he adopts a little girl whose mother died outside his house. Gabriel Byrne and Laura Linney co-star in this affecting drama that's departure for the usually zany Martin.
