Spike Lee employs his signature technique of combining film and archival footage to tell the story of the infamous co-founder of the Black Panther Party for Self Defense, who rose to American awareness after being falsely imprisoned for murder. Adapted from Roger Guenveur Smith's award-winning one-man show, the film uses live stage footage to help create a more intimate portrait of the troubled cultural icon's life.
