Prominent Athenian industrialist Cleon Pellas (Giorgos Pappas) is secretly drowning in debt. To help him avoid bankruptcy, his self-centered wife orders the couple's ravishing daughter, Chloe (Ellie Lambeti), to refuse her two handsome suitors and consent to the marriage proposal of an affluent but unattractive Greek-American businessman. Michael Cacoyannis directed this acerbic 1957 drama about Greek aristocratic life.
