Dana Andrews stars as Sgt. Bill Tyne, an American soldier who leads his platoon through the Italian countryside on a march -- punctuated by sporadic skirmishes -- to capture a Nazi-held farmhouse in this unflinching World War II drama. Between hostilities, the men forge a deep bond as they come to grips with war's capriciousness. The all-male cast includes Richard Conte, John Ireland and Lloyd Bridges. Lewis Milestone directs.
