Sunil (Rakesh Roshan), a young army officer, falls in love with Sheetal (Rekha) at first sight. Upon learning that she's betrothed to Sunil's commanding officer, Ajay (Sanjeev Kumar), Sunil starts hating him. But after he gets to know Ajay while working closely with him, his hatred soon turns to awe and respect, and he reconciles himself to losing his beloved. When Ajay's killed in the line of duty, Sunil vows to take care of his widowed mother.
