To help a friend, Varsha (Asha Parekh) enters into a relationship of convenience with Anil (Vinod Khanna), the only son of a wealthy family. Having placated his mother by claiming to be engaged to Varsha, Anil settles down to enjoy his inheritance. But trouble arises when Varsha falls for Ajit (Rajesh Khanna), a social worker who's contemptuous of the idle rich, and Anit's mother threatens to cut Anit off from the family fortune.
