Kalu (Guru Dutt), a tenderhearted leadfoot who used to drive a taxi, gets sent to the slammer for speeding. But when he's released early for good behavior, his family and former boss shut him out. With no place to live and no way to make a living, Kalu takes a job at a garage, where he quickly falls in love with the proprietor's daughter, Nikki (Shyama). Her father's disapproval, however, threatens to put the brakes on their budding romance.
