When the humble Deepak (Pradeep Kumar) saves Aarti (Meena Kumari), a hardworking doctor, from drowning, she can't help but fall in love with him, much to the displeasure of her fiancé, Prakash (Ashok Kumar), and her disapproving father. That leaves the humiliated Prakash determined to get Aarti back, no matter what he has to do -- even if it means playing God with Deepak's life and making Aarti completely miserable.
