When Nirmala (Nargis) is mistakenly arrested, her unsympathetic uncle throws her out, and fate conveniently guides her to the only person she can trust -- her old college crush, Rajan (Pradeep Kumar). But when Rajan leaves for a trip to America, Nirmala discovers that she's pregnant, prompting Rajan's father to toss her out, too. With no other options, she arranges for another woman to raise the baby. Will she ever see her "family" again?
