Adanggaman
(2000)|
The ways in which the tribal wars of 17th century West Africa fueled the burgeoning slave trade is the subject of this multinational production. The title character (Rasmane Ouedraogo) is a ruthless king who declares war on a neighboring village, ordering the survivors taken prisoner and sold to the Europeans. When the vanquished village leader (Ziable Honoré Goore Bi) escapes, he sets out to free his mother before she's shipped to the New World.
