In need of work after moving to Hong Kong from China, a young martial artist (Michelle Yeoh) starts a promising career as a stuntwoman. Her bravery and athleticism make her a natural for the job, and her friendship with a supportive director named Thunderbolt (Sammo Hung) helps her feel accepted in the business. But a passionate affair with a philandering playboy ends up breaking her heart -- and unleashing her wild side.
