Unbeknownst to her owner (Itsuji Itao), an inflatable sex doll (Du-na Bae) magically comes to life in contemporary Japan. Soon, she's meandering through the streets and into a video store, where she meets and falls for a human clerk named Junichi (Arata). A highly atypical romance ensues in director Hirokazu Koreeda's adaptation of "Kûki ningyô," a 2000 manga. This drama screened in the Un Certain Regard section of the 2009 Cannes Film Festival.
