Returning home after graduating from a music college, Alok Prasad (Amitabh Bachchan) soon clashes with his autocratic attorney father (Om Prakash), who insists that Alok abandon his music and join the family law firm. Secretly, however, Alok continues to study music with aging tutor Sarjubai (Chhaya Devi). When Alok's father finds out, he flies into a frenzy and sets about evicting Sarjubai from her home, alienating his son in the process.
