Absent-minded professor Malcolm Downey (Thomas Cavanagh) has just invented the sure thing that will lead to the academic easy street of tenure: a computer that can register human emotions. In order to give his device the acid test, Malcolm decides to see whether a real woman can fall in love with his machine. But Malcolm never computed falling in love himself -- with his test subject, Samantha (Sarah Chalke).
