Former motorcycle racing champion Ah-Long Yeung (Chow Yun-Fat) is a single dad struggling to raise his smart-mouthed 9-year-old son amidst crushing working-class poverty in 1980s Hong Kong. Their strong bond is threatened when the boy's long-lost mother (Sylvia Chang), a yuppie expatriate, tries to pry her son away from Ah-Long. When Ah-Long is given another shot at racing, his life and relationship with his son are challenged.
