Tom Cruise plays high school senior Stefen Djordjevic, a gridiron hero eager to earn a football scholarship and leave behind his bleak steel-mill hometown. But a falling-out with his stern, ambitious coach (Craig T. Nelson) soon jeopardizes Stefen's college plans. Directed by Michael Chapman, this affecting coming-of-age drama also stars Chris Penn and Lea Thompson as Cruise's steadfast girlfriend.
