When a holiday family reunion is cut short by his daughter's fatal shooting, Martin Tillman (James Coburn) copes with his grief by setting out to find the owner of the gun involved in the murder. Using the gun's serial number, Martin traces its path across America, from owner to owner. At the same time, he begins to face his own demons driving him to search for answers and must ultimately confront some painful truths before he can begin healing.
