A serial killer stalks the residents of a sleepy town, videotaping each of his victims before he goes in for the kill. He also documents the murder itself and then sends the tape to the next unlucky person on his list. A young reporter named Jessie St. Claire (Rachael Leigh Cook) steps in to try to crack the case, but as she begins picking up clues, she makes a horrifying discovery: a tape of the most recent murder in her mailbox.
