The final film from cinematic giant Yasujiro Ozu (Tokyo Story), this poignant tale centers on aging widower Shuhei Hirayama (Chishu Ryu) and his efforts to find a suitable husband for his daughter, Michiko (Shima Iwashita). Despite his struggles to come to terms with modernity and the inevitable loneliness that awaits him, Hirayama decides that his daughter's life should not be spent caring for him.
