This rendering of author Leo Tolstoy's classic stars Greta Garbo as the married Russian woman who falls in love and runs off with dashing soldier Vronsky (Fredric March). Upon Anna's return, her icy and distant husband (the hissable Basil Rathbone) prevents her from seeing her son. To make matters worse, Vronsky deserts her to join a regiment heading to the Turkish-Serbian war. With her life in tatters, Anna makes a momentous decision.
